southbend metric lathe
Neil Sirica #70889 Hello all , New here , I have purchased a southbend metric 10 K light lathe , circa approx 1970 > 80 . I am looking for 2 things regarding this lathe : 1) the treading chart information of the lathe . eg - a booklet (or photocopy of booklet) , or a picture of the charts / name plates of the lathe . 2) also a thread dial indicator ( to buy or where I can purchase this dial ) . Thank all in advance for your help , Neil |
Jim B. #70890 Welcome Neil A bit of clarification here. There are two kinds of charts and two kindsof metric lathes. One in which the lead screw is a truemetric pitch. This is a true metric lathe. And a second, in which an inch screw (8 TPI)is used with metric transposing gears (127/100) to convert the machine tometric. Which version do you have? If yours is thefirst kind, perhaps one of our UKmembers can help, If the later I can help. On the metric thread dial, perhaps Ted, Latheman2@..., can help. These are rareand more complicated than the imperial ones. They have three gears and you needto know which one to use with a given thread. When I cut metric I just never disengagethe half-nuts. That works for everything and on a short thread is actuallyquicker than using the thread dial since you don’t need to wait for the “correct”mark to come around. Jim B. |
Nelson Collar #70891 Neil most of what you are looling for, you can find on E-Bay most of the time. Just do a search on South Bend Lathe and you will find a lot of stuff. If not check back often until you find what you want. Some of the prices are good others think it is gold. But it is not gold, just keep looking. Matter of fact there is a dial indicater and a micro carrage stop now at: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=South+Bend+Lathe&_sacat=See-All-Categories Nelson Collar toggle quoted messageShow quoted text From: Neil Sirica Hello all , New here , I have purchased a southbend metric 10 K light lathe , circa approx 1970 > 80 .
