Can we talk about summer shopping? There’s something so exciting about updating your wardrobe for the new season. As the days get longer and the temperatures rise, it’s the perfect time to refresh your closet with some fabulous new pieces. I’ve been browsing and curating my own wardrobe, so my shopping cart is full, and I’m thrilled to share my top picks for Summer 2024. These are the ten must-have items that will keep you stylish and comfortable all season long.

In My Shopping Cart for Summer 2024:

1. Button Downs

Button-downs are a summer staple that never goes out of style. They’re incredibly versatile and can be dressed up or down, making them perfect for any occasion. This season, I’m loving crisp white button-downs, striped patterns, and vibrant colors. They’re perfect for layering over a tank top or wearing on their own with a pair of shorts or jeans.

Style Tip: Tie or criss cross the front of your button down for a relaxed, beachy look or tuck it into high-waisted pants for a more polished vibe.

2. Slingbacks

Slingbacks are making a major comeback, and I couldn’t be more excited. These chic and comfortable shoes are perfect for transitioning from day to night. Whether you’re heading to the office or out for dinner, slingbacks add a touch of elegance to any outfit. Loafers are the ultimate blend of style and comfort. They’re perfect for those days when you’re on the go but still want to look put-together. Loafers can be worn all year long. And they come in super handy during the transition from winter to spring (as well as summer to fall) when it’s in between boots and sandals weather. This summer, I’m eyeing loafers in fun colors and interesting textures to add a bit of flair to my outfits.

Style Tip: Wear loafers with cropped pants to show off your shoes, or pair them with a summer skirt for a chic and unexpected combination.

4. White/Off-White Jeans

White jeans are a summer essential. They’re fresh, crisp, and go with everything. This season, I’m specifically looking for pairs in slightly off-white shades like ecru or cream. Whether you prefer a skinny fit, straight leg, or wide leg, white jeans are a versatile piece that can be dressed up or down.

Style Tip: Pair off-white jeans with a colorful top and wedges or play into the whole monochromatic vibe and wear variations of white, cream and camel together for a chic summer look.

When buying white jeans I sometimes recommend sizing up one size if it’s a slim style and/ or a thin stretchy fabric. As a rule of thumb, the lighter the color the less forgiving.

5. Vests

Vests are having a moment and are a great way to add some interest to your summer wardrobe. Whether you opt for a tailored vest or a more relaxed style, this piece can be layered over a variety of outfits for a stylish and modern look.

Style Tip: Layer a vest over a simple tee or tank for an effortlessly cool look, or wear it over a button-down for a more structured outfit. My current favorite is to wear it on its own for a fun, slightly sexy corpcore look.

6. Everyday Sandals

Everyday sandals are a must-have for summer. I’m currently attracted to chunkier sandals, which give you a little extra height without sacrificing comfort. They can have a full platform and offer some added inches that my more petite ladies love, or just have a tread or sneaker-like bottom that gives a sporty yet polished look. This season, I’m loving sandals in neutral tones as well as bold colors and patterns.

Style Tip: Pair sandals with a sundress for a casual, boho vibe or with tailored shorts and a tank for a summer day walking around.

7. Utility Denim Jackets

Denim jackets are a summertime staple. They are an easy way to tone down an outfit’s fancy factor. The newest style I’m adding to my jean jacket collection is an oversized version, particularly a utility style. Utility denim jackets are the perfect third piece for cooler summer nights. They’re functional, stylish, and add a bit of edge to any outfit. I’m particularly fond of styles with multiple pockets and interesting details.

Style Tip: Throw a utility denim jacket over a maxi dress for an oversized look, or wear it with sweats for a polished yet functional travel ensemble.

8. White Court Shoes

White court shoes are a classic that never goes out of style. They’re sleek and incredibly versatile. Keeping the sneakers all white helps them dress up (or down) more easily. They work equally well with casual pieces like denim or joggers as well as with more elevated items like trousers. And your feet will be happy, too!

Style Tip: Pair white court shoes with tailored trousers for a refined look or with a summer dress for an easy, comfortable, and casual look.

9. Bermuda/Tailored Shorts

Bermuda shorts and tailored shorts are having a resurgence. And they’re perfect for summer because they’re comfortable, stylish, and offer more coverage than traditional shorts. I’m particularly loving high-waisted styles that cinch at the waist and offer more room in the thigh for a flattering silhouette.

Style Tip: Pair Bermuda shorts with a tucked-in blouse and sandals for a polished daytime look or with a tank and sneakers for a more casual outfit. If the shorts come as a set, I highly recommend buying them as a set. You’ll get much more wear and versatility from wearing them together or broken apart.

10. Trousers

Trousers are a wardrobe essential that can be worn year-round. For summer, I’m looking at lightweight fabrics and relaxed fits that are perfect for staying cool while looking chic. Neutral tones and soft pastels are my go-to colors for the season. And I am still wearing my black trousers on repeat too.

Style Tip: Trousers worn with a fitted top and heels offer a sophisticated look, or with a loose tee and flats give a laid-back yet stylish feel. Make sure the loose tee is tucked or hits above the hipbone to create balance and proportion.
